I have had a long standing goal of completing a half iron man for awhile now, it is on my list of a 100 things to do before I die. So this August I finally was able to cross it off the list, by doing the Utah Half. Lets just say this pic sums it all up.......
( that is me at the finish line somewhere between wanting to puke and almost passing out)
The day before I had serious runs, sorry too much info., so I was depleted to begin with. I couldn't keep anything in me. The morning of they almost canceled the swim because it was super windy, so windy in fact that they had a hard time anchoring down the buoy for the swim it kept blowing away. Anyway, they ended up letting us swim one lap of it instead of doing it twice. Lets just say I might have drowned had we done it twice. Some random guy while we were swimming started panicking and shoved me under the safety kayak. I came up underneath the kayak and was kind of panicky myself trying to get air, because he was blocking my way back out. I finally got around him and started swimming again, anyway it kind of shook me up for awhile.
(this is how windy it was, there was waves)
The bike was good though, Scotty and my dad, rode with me for part of the way which was nice because it started dumping rain and it was super windy. The run I broke down, I almost didn't finish, I was super dehydrated and my insides started cramping up. In fact the sorest muscle I had the next day was my stomach muscles from cramping so hard. They gave me coke at one of the aid stations and surprisingly enough it took it away. I was able to finish the race, for a minute there I didn't know if it was going to happen. Anyway, it felt good to finish. I finished third in my age group. I felt good about it considering I haven't felt that depelted physically in my whole life. I was just glad to finish.
